Ford Starts Most Comprehensive Truck Marketing Campaign to Introduce Toughest, Smartest, Most Capable F-150 Ever

Hero Image

  • Ford’s most comprehensive F-150 marketing campaign ever launches this week with television commercials during the first-ever college football playoff for NCAA Division I teams and online webisodes hosted by ESPN “Sport Science” creator John Brenkus
  • Straight-talk television commercials highlight F-150’s Built Ford Tough durability, class-leading capability, smart innovations and 38 consecutive years of F-Series as America’s best-selling truck
  • Ford F-150 marketing campaign tailored to reach truck customers where they spend much more time than the average consumer – watching sports on television, listening to radio programs in their trucks, attending major events, online and using mobile devices

Ford this week kicks off its most comprehensive truck marketing campaign ever to promote the all-new 2015 F-150 – the toughest, smartest and most capable F-150 ever.

Available across the widest variety of communications platforms yet, from football to professional bull riding to country music to smartphones, Ford’s new multichannel marketing campaign will reach truck customers where they work and play.

Messaging will feature F-150’s breakthroughs – including its industry-leading light-weighting strategy utilizing high-strength, military-grade, aluminum alloy plus 11 class-exclusive innovations, such as its 360-degree camera, LED headlamps/spotlights and remote tailgate release.

“Like the 2015 Ford F-150, Ford’s truck customers have become even smarter about how they do their jobs and how they shop for their next truck,” said Chantel Lenard, Ford director, U.S. Marketing. “To meet their information-gathering needs, Ford will gain their attention during commuting and off-hours while providing on-demand digital and mobile content that answers their questions 24/7.”

Delivering information throughout the customer’s research period is important to help with this major purchase decision.

Ford’s data show that truck customers begin the shopping process earlier than typical customers, starting an average of 233 days before purchase. Nearly half of truck buyers ultimately purchase the brand they researched in their initial shopping. They spend an average of 35 percent to 45 percent more time on dealer websites than car and crossover buyers, looking at specific trucks to meet their unique needs.

“From 30-second TV spots to in-depth videos, our new ads and online content demonstrate to customers where we’ve delivered improved capability, while proving the F-150 is a performer to help them get the job done,” said Lenard.

Three national TV commercials make their debut Dec. 31 during the first-ever college football playoff for NCAA Division I teams.

The straight-talking spots emphasize F-150’s hallmark durability, class-leading capabilities and smart technologies that help improve productivity. They also feature the debut of an updated Built Ford Tough shield, Ford’s legendary durability promise to its customer for more than 35 years. The spots include:

  • “Forward March” is a 60-second anthem spot that introduces the world to the Future of Tough and the all-new F-150, tougher, smarter and more capable than ever
  • “What’s Next” highlights innovations available only for F-150 customers – from a remote tailgate release to LED headlamps and spotlights to a 360-degree camera system that helps the driver see what’s around tight job sites or trails
  • “Move It” shows the F-150 towing a variety of heavy items, utilizing its best-in-class 12,200 pounds towing rating

“The forward movement, innovation and spirit of progress embodied in these ads will resonate with truck customers for whom productivity, making a difference and building a legacy is so important,” said Doug Scott, Ford Truck Group Marketing manager.

Television spots will showcase Ford’s long-running truck leadership. F-150 is part of the Ford F-Series truck lineup, now in its 66th year. F-Series has been the best-selling truck in America for 37 consecutive years and best-selling vehicle in America for 32 consecutive years.

Ford and FOX Network Group are also working together to promote F-150 across the network’s news, sports and Hispanic platforms, including Fox Deportes and MundoFox.

In addition to TV, radio and print ads will reinforce F-150’s durability and capability messages.

The F-150 marketing team is also reaching out to customers with exclusive webisode content for digital and mobile devices.

ESPN “Sport Science” creator John Brenkus hosts “F-150 Tough Science” webisodes that showcase various technologies and materials in the truck, such as its high-strength, military-grade, aluminum-alloy body and high-strength steel frame. “Tough Science” shows customers how these innovations make the new F-150 nearly 700 pounds lighter and more efficient than any previous F-150.

The all-new F-150 also will be promoted with Ford’s brand content alliance teams, including country music star Toby Keith, Professional Bull Riding, NASCAR and National FFA.

On sale now, the new F-150 delivers class-leading towing capability of up to 12,200 pounds and hauling capacity of up to 3,300 pounds. When equipped with the available 2.7-liter EcoBoost® engine, the new F-150 4x2 has EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings of 19 mpg city, 26 mpg highway and 22 mpg combined – the highest of any full-size gasoline-powered pickup on the market. Actual mileage will vary.

The 2015 Ford F-150 takes on Top Athletes Pummeling it with Projectiles | Tough Science

Top athletes deliver punishing slap shots, fastballs and more into our truck beds. Which holds up best? Last year’s steel, or the new aluminum alloy?

From John Brenkus, host and creator of ESPN Sport Science comes Tough Science, a series in which he and his crew take a closer look at the science behind the 2015 F-150 through a variety of tests.

In this episode, we see how the 2015 F-150, with its 2.7L EcoBoost engine and weight reduction of up to 700 pounds (made possible by the high-strength, military-grade, aluminum alloy body), can handle what our team can throw at it – literally.

We’ll test the strength and durability of the new aluminum bed vs. last year’s steel bed with the help of top athletes. They’ll be launching projectiles from their respective sports into both beds. We’re talking - Baseballs, golf balls, hockey pucks and shot puts. These athletes hold nothing back as they unleash on both beds.

The 2015 Ford F-150 takes on A Mountain of Lumber | Tough Science

Can a smaller engine actually produce more power? We go engine vs. engine. And, just for fun (and science), lumberjack vs. lumberjack.

From John Brenkus, host and creator of ESPN Sport Science comes Tough Science, a series in which he and his crew take a closer look at the science behind the 2015 F-150 through a variety of tests.

Throughout this series, we see how the 2015 F-150, with its 2.7L EcoBoost engine and weight reduction of up to 700 pounds (made possible by the high-strength, military-grade, aluminum alloy body), can handle an uphill battle.

We run the 2015 F-150 up a mountain – while towing a 7,000-lb. trailer full of lumber – to see if a 2.7L EcoBoost engine, in a lighter truck, can perform as well as last year’s best selling 5.0L V8 – with nearly twice the displacement!

We put its power, torque, and towing capability to the test. Can the 2015 F-150 beat the old industry standards? Is it possible to make the best selling truck on the market, even better?

A New Breed of Performance Starts with Ford EcoBoost Engines

Hero Image

  • Ford now offers EcoBoost® engines in all of its high-performance nameplates – from Fiesta ST to Mustang – making room for a new kind of aftermarket tuning
  • Modifying engine performance can be accomplished with hand-held programmers that adjust several engine parameters
  • Adjusting engine control unit programming can result in performance gains of up to 90 lb.-ft. of torque in cars like Focus ST

Ford’s award-winning EcoBoost® engine lineup not only has great EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings, it is also becoming a favorite family of engines in the performance tuning community.

From the infancy of the automobile, tinkerers have always chased more power by removing original components and replacing them with expensive aftermarket parts. This can lead to added performance, but at a cost to fuel efficiency, durability or driving comfort most owners would never accept.

For example, while replacing a camshaft can result in added horsepower, but typically a smooth idle must be sacrificed. Replacements can include new exhaust and intake manifolds, high-flow fueling systems and sometimes superchargers. This kind of tuning requires significant know-how and for the vehicle to be out of operation for some time.

Now, with the advent of computer-controlled engines, tuners have begun modifying a vehicle’s original programming for increased engine performance in the areas they choose. The technologies in Ford EcoBoost engines make their efforts even more effective.

Advanced EcoBoost technology includes direct injection, variable cam timing and turbocharging that, together, offer excellent power density and EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings straight from the factory. In the hands of engine tuning experts, tweaking these attributes can result in tremendous gains in horsepower and torque output, at an inexpensive price tag.

A programming handset from Ford Racing offers a perfect example of the tuning possibilities. For Focus ST’s 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine and Fiesta ST’s 1.6-liter EcoBoost, Ford Racing offers ProCal, which any performance enthusiast can purchase at FordRacing.com for $595. Plug the device into the car’s diagnostic link connector port in the driver’s side footwell to tap into the many aspects of the car’s performance – anything from throttle response characteristics or idle speed, to turbo wastegate control, to fuel curves and spark timing.

While these settings should be modified only within recommended limits, the resulting performance gains with Ford-tested programs can be impressive. Focus ST owners, for example, can expect up to a 90 lb.-ft. increase in torque – all while maintaining the Ford-backed limited warranty.

Ford Racing is developing custom engine calibrations for the all-new Mustang 2.3-liter EcoBoost, with a product expected on the market by the end of 2015.

Not all enthusiasts are concerned about maintaining their factory warranty, and for those Ford has committed to working with aftermarket tuning companies to enable the development of high-quality parts and accessories to maximize the performance of Ford vehicles. Aftermarket tuners have achieved impressive performance gains for the all-new 2.3-liter EcoBoost I-4 in the 2015 Ford Mustang. Several tuners, including Mountune and Full-Race Motorsports, showcased their modified EcoBoost Mustangs at the 2014 SEMA Show.

By working with respected turbocharging engine experts from around the world including Mountune and Full-Race Motorsports, Ford is demonstrating a commitment to a new breed of forced-induction performance. Expect to see more exciting new options from Ford Racing in the near future.

Ford Motor Company to Sell New Shelby GT350 Mustang at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction to Benefit JDRF

  • Hero Image
    •  First publicly available production unit of the all-new Shelby GT350® Mustang to be auctioned by Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction, with all proceeds benefiting JDRF
    • Winning bidder will be able to choose from available colors and packages for Shelby GT350
    • Ford-sponsored ride-and-drives during the auction will feature a full lineup of 2015 vehicles

Ford Motor Company will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the legendary Shelby GT350 Mustang by auctioning the first production unit of the new-generation car available to the public for charity at Barrett-Jackson in Scottsdale, Arizona.

All proceeds will benefit JDRF, the country’s leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes research. Live coverage of the auction of the Shelby GT350 will air on Velocity on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015.

The winning bidder of lot No. 3008 – selling at No Reserve – will become owner of the coveted first retail production unit of Ford Shelby GT350, and choose from available Shelby GT350 colors and packages.

In January 1964, Carroll Shelby and Ford Motor Company forever altered the automotive industry with the introduction of the GT350. It was offered through Ford dealers from 1965 through 1970. Today, these cars are among the most collectible vehicles in the world, and now Shelby GT350 is returning to Ford showrooms as the most innovative and track-capable Mustang in history.

“The all-new Shelby GT350 is a thrilling, world-class car,” said Steve Ling, North America car marketing manager for Ford. “From the all-new independent suspension – a first for a Shelby, to the powerful engine and superb brakes, this car is simply amazing. Just as the Shelby GT350 did in 1965, we expect this new-generation pony car to demonstrate Ford Motor Company continues to lead the world in innovation and performance.”

Team members involved in the design and development of the Shelby GT350 will sign the car in appreciation of the donations to JDRF. Ford has supported JDRF since 1983.

“JDRF is privileged to work with Ford, and we are extremely grateful for the generous support from Ford and its employees through the years,” said John Brady, JDRF chairman, international board of directors. “We are honored to be part of the company’s 50-year celebration of the Shelby GT350 at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale. This very exciting and worthwhile event means a great deal to not only JDRF and the type 1 community, but to me personally as well. We are dedicated to continue our work and to share our vision of creating a world without type 1 diabetes.”

“Ford and Barrett-Jackson have raised millions of dollars to benefit local and national charities for many years,” said Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson Auctions. “The auction of the new Shelby GT350 promises to be electrifying, while helping raise necessary funding for JDRF.”
Based on the popular design of the 2015 Ford Mustang, the Shelby GT350 was created with an emphasis on incredible driving dynamics and balanced performance.

“We took the best Ford Mustang yet and massaged every aspect of the car that affects the performance driving experience,” said Jamal Hameedi, chief engineer, Ford Global Performance Vehicles. “We tested endlessly on the most challenging roads and tracks in the world, and we believe serious drivers will love the Shelby GT350 Mustang.”

Shelby GT350 is powered by the first production V8 from Ford with a flat-plane crankshaft – a design typically reserved for racing applications and exotic European sports cars. The 5.2-liter engine puts out more than 500 horsepower and a torque peak of more than 400 lb.-ft. – making it the most powerful naturally aspirated Ford production engine ever.

The car uses extra-stiff 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels shod in state-of-the-art Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires with GT350-specific sidewall construction, tread and compound for maximum grip. A standard Ford-tuned Torsen limited-slip differential optimizes cornering grip and straight-line traction. Carefully sculpted body panels maximize aerodynamic forces.

GT350 features the most track-worthy brake system ever offered on a Ford vehicle in terms of absolute stopping power and fade resistance. At the front are massive 394-millimeter rotors clamped by Brembo six-piston calipers; 380-millimeter rotors at the rear use four-piston calipers.

Ford will have its 2015 vehicle lineup on hand, including the new Mustang, Expedition and F-150 for ride-and-drives for auction attendees. Additionally, the Shelby American-built GT500 Super Snake and Shelby Focus ST will be offered for a hot laps experience with professional drivers from Miller Motorsports Park.

Ford Volunteer Corps Collects, Packages and Delivers Food for the Hungry on a Ford Accelerated Action Day

Hero Image
  • Hundreds of Ford employees have teamed up to feed the hungry in their local communities
  • Ford Motor Company Fund provided more than $91,000 in grants to purchase supplies for today’s volunteer projects
  • Ford and Ford Fund are donating $1.3 million in financial support, grants, vehicles and other assistance for hunger relief this fall
Collecting food, stocking shelves, and serving meals are all in a day’s work for Ford volunteers on a Ford Accelerated Action Day. Today, more than 700 Ford employees are on the job in soup kitchens, food banks, shelters and care centers across the U.S., teaming up with nonprofit partners to assist the needy during this holiday season

Ford’s nonprofit partners created more than 50 projects in eight states that focus on the most urgent needs of the people they serve. Hunger relief is the top priority for today’s activities and many of the participating agencies will share more than $91,000 in Ford Fund grants to buy the food and materials needed to complete the day’s work.

“Helping to meet the most basic needs of our neighbors is the first step toward creating a better world,” said Jim Vella, president, Ford Motor Company Fund and Community Services. “Hunger affects one in six Americans. That’s 49 million people each year. We have a lot of reasons to be thankful and one of them is being able to share some of our good fortune with the less fortunate in our communities.”

Nonprofit partners in southeast Michigan receiving up to $5,000 in grants for today’s projects include:

  • Advanced Technology Academy, Dearborn – Assemble family holiday food packages
  • Capuchin Soup Kitchen, Detroit – Assemble & distribute emergency food packages
  • COTS, Detroit – Prepare & serve holiday lunch to emergency shelter residents
  • Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries, Detroit – Serve holiday lunch for homeless
  • Fish & Loaves, Taylor – Restock & organize client choice food pantry
  • Focus HOPE, Detroit – Prepare food packages for homebound senior citizens
  • Food Gatherers, Ann Arbor – Assemble emergency food packages
  • HAVEN, Pontiac – Install food pantry shelving & prepare food care packages
  • Lighthouse of Oakland County, Pontiac – Transport food & organize food pantry
  • Matrix Human Services, Detroit – Assemble emergency food packages & serve hot lunch
  • Ruth Ellis Center, Detroit – Assemble emergency food packages & organize, restock food pantry
  • Salvation Army, Detroit – Prepare & serve lunch, pack & distribute food for Bed & Bread truck
  • St. Vincent de Paul, Detroit – Sort and pack food at Gleaners Community Food Bank
  • Veteran's Haven, Detroit – Distribute monthly food packages & organize food pantry

“We know that finding enough to eat is a daily struggle for thousands in our community,” said Janet Lawson, director, Ford Volunteer Corps. “Through our volunteer efforts and nonprofit partnerships, our fleet of Ford Mobile Food Pantries and the generous donations of so many, we hope to ease that struggle not just over the holidays but throughout the year.”

The Ford Volunteer Corps is active in local communities across the country and around the world. In September, thousands of Ford employees gather on six continents during Ford Global Week of Caring to perform critical community service work to benefit people in their local cities, towns and villages.

Ford Motor Company and Ford Fund, its philanthropic arm, are contributing $1.3 million in financial support, grants, vehicles and other assistance to hunger-relief organizations this fall. The donations include a new Ford Transit for the Salvation Army’s Bed & Bread Club, and a text-to-donate campaign with Quick Lane Tire & Auto Center, Ford and Feeding America®. Supporters can make a $10 donation by texting MEAL to 50555. The campaign runs through the Quick Lane Bowl, which takes place at 4:30 p.m. EST, Dec. 26, at Ford Field in Detroit. A $10 donation helps Feeding America provide 100 meals on behalf of member food banks. Ford will provide up to $250,000 in matching donations.

2015 Mustang Convertible Begins Shipping to Ford Dealers

Hero Image

  • Keys to the first 2015 Ford Mustang convertibles will be in customers’ hands shortly
  • Available heated seats and remote start allow the all-new Mustang convertible to be enjoyed year-round, even in the coldest climates
  • Selectable drive modes with a snow/wet setting tunes Mustang to perform well in inclement weather conditions

Ford Motor Company is excited to announce the 2015 Ford Mustang convertible will begin shipping to dealerships nationwide this week.

“Cold weather may have come unseasonably early this year, but with available heated seats, remote start and selectable drive modes with a snow/wet setting, Mustang is the perfect offering for the season,” said Melanie Banker, Mustang brand manager.

Heated seats, standard on all premium Mustang convertibles, allow the driver and front passenger to stay warm even when the temperature drops. “While these seats also have a cooling feature, we suspect customers won’t be using this function for a few more months,” said Banker.

Remote start, standard on all automatic-transmission Mustang models, allows customers to fire up their drop-top from the comfort of their home, even in inclement weather conditions. When remote start is used, Mustang not only warms up its engine, it also warms the interior of the car to a comfortable temperature.

Selectable drive modes, standard on premium Mustang models, features a wet/snow setting that tweaks throttle response, steering effort and traction control to mitigate wheel spin and maximize vehicle control.

“Mustangs are made for year-round practicality and enjoyment,” Banker said, “so it’s exciting that customers are taking delivery of their convertible Mustang models – regardless of the season.”

50 years of Ford Mustang

More than 9.2 million Mustangs have been sold since the car’s 1964 debut.

Now with more options to choose from, there is a Mustang to fit any lifestyle. The upgraded V8 in Mustang GT – now delivering 435 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft. of torque – is joined by a 300-horsepower 3.7-liter V6 and an all-new 2.3-liter EcoBoost® engine that brings state-of-the-art technology to Mustang.

The 2.3-liter EcoBoost uses direct injection, variable cam timing and a twin-scroll turbocharger to deliver the performance Mustang drivers expect, with an output of 310 horsepower and 320 lb.-ft. of torque.

In addition to being the most-liked vehicle on Facebook, with 8 million likes, the all-new Mustang is turning on U.S. dealer lots in an average of eight days.

·         Class-exclusive active park assist: Active park assist uses two ultrasonic sensors and electric power-assisted steering to help drivers parallel park. The sensors measure the gap between two vehicles to determine if there is enough room for the F-150. After confirming the vehicle can fit, the truck automatically steers into the space, while the driver operates the accelerator and brake pedals

·         Class-exclusive adaptive cruise control and collision warning with brake support: Adaptive cruise control and collision warning with brake support uses radar in the front of the truck to measure the distance and speed of vehicles ahead. Using this information, F-150 can automatically slow to keep a consistent following distance set by the driver. The slower speed will be maintained if adaptive cruise control is activated. Collision warning triggers visual and audio alerts if the system detects the following distance is diminishing too quickly and a collision may occur. It also pre-charges the brakes if the driver needs to stop suddenly

·         Class-exclusive smart trailer tow module with Dynamic Hitch Assist: The smart trailer tow module shows the driver which lights on a trailer connected to the truck aren’t working, so the driver or a passenger doesn’t have to exit the vehicle and walk around the trailer to discover lights are blown. Dynamic Hitch Assist is a new rearview camera feature that adds a dynamic line based on steering wheel angle in the display to help customers line up truck and trailer without requiring a spotter or having to exit the vehicle

·         Class-exclusive 360-degree camera with split-view display: Available 360-degree camera with split-view display uses four exterior cameras to give the driver a bird’s-eye view of up to seven feet surrounding the F-150 to assist in parking, maneuvering in tight spots and navigating narrow roads and trails at low speeds

·         High-wattage outlets: 400-watt, 110-volt outlets in the cab allow drivers to easily charge corded tools, battery chargers or mobile devices on-site or while in transit

·         LED spotlights: LED spotlights on sideview mirrors provide powerful, durable and bright lighting around the truck exterior

·         Blind Spot Information System with cross-traffic alert: Available BLIS® uses radar sensors in the taillamps to monitor areas that may not be visible to the driver. The sensors trigger a warning light in the sideview mirrors to indicate another vehicle is in a blind spot if the driver is attempting to change lanes. These same sensors can detect a vehicle coming down an aisle when the driver is slowly backing out of a parking space

·         Lane-keeping system: Available lane-keeping is designed to help prevent a driver from drifting outside of the intended driving lane. The system automatically detects the left- or right-hand road lane markings using a camera mounted between the windshield and interior rearview mirror. A vibration in the steering wheel is used to alert the driver. The system can also provide steering torque to help guide the vehicle back into the lane if needed

·         Lighter yet more capable: Regardless of model configuration or engine choice, every truck customer benefits from up to 700 pounds of weight savings with the 2015 F-150; F-150 can tow up to 1,100 more pounds, haul up to 530 more pounds, and brings the highest EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings of any full-size gasoline pickup on the market. When equipped with the available 2.7-liter EcoBoost® engine, the new F-150 4x2 has EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings of 19 mpg city, 26 mpg highway and 22 mpg combined. Actual mileage may vary

“We’re always looking to deliver more for our customers, and this truck offers a whole new level of productivity by being the toughest, smartest and most capable F-150 ever,” said Scott.
