Ford EcoBoost Challenge Returns in March for 17-City Test-Drive Tour; Participants Eligible to Win All-New Ford Edge

Ford Motor Company is once again giving fans and potential customers in 17 cities across America a chance to get behind the wheel of its latest products, with its third EcoBoost^® Challenge consumer drive tour launching next month.

EcoBoost Challenge expands to 17 cities in 2015, and will provide five unique drive experiences in Ford products. In a new incentive this year, participants will have an opportunity to win an EcoBoost-powered 2015 Ford Edge, and can earn additional entries in the sweepstakes by bringing guests with them to the event.

Kicking off March 7 at Miami’s Sun Life Stadium, EcoBoost Challenge gets consumers behind the wheel of some of Ford’s most popular vehicles, including back-to-back drives with competitor vehicles. More than 28,000 people took part in last year’s EcoBoost Challenge.

“With EcoBoost engines now available across 100 percent of our U.S. light-duty lineup, the EcoBoost Challenge lets consumers experience this innovative technology that helps Ford deliver better fuel economy with a more engaging driving experience than the competition,” said Michele Bartlett, Ford group marketing manager for large cars and SUVs. “Not only is the EcoBoost Challenge a lot of fun, but getting people in the driver’s seat is the best way for them to experience the craftsmanship, innovation and performance of the Ford lineup.”

2015 EcoBoost Challenge participants will have a chance to drive some of Ford’s most anticipated new models, including the all-new 2015 Ford Mustang and all-new 2015 Ford F-150 – the toughest, smartest, most capable F-150 ever. Also on hand will be the all-new 2015 Ford Edge, new 2015 Expedition, plus Escape, Fusion Hybrid and Transit Connect Wagon.

With its new 2.7-liter EcoBoost engine with standard Auto Start-Stop, the 2015 Ford F-150 resets the bar in light-duty pickup truck performance, capability and efficiency, with class-leading EPA-estimated ratings for gasoline-powered full-size pickups. The 2015 Ford Mustang features an all-new available 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine, and the 2015 Ford Edge comes standard with a twin-scroll 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder or an available 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6.

At this year’s event, EcoBoost Challenge participants can take part in the ST Reaction Time Challenge, testing their reflexes in both Fiesta ST and Focus ST, and driving the all-new 2015 F-150 and Edge against the competition. A dedicated course for the all-new 2015 Mustang EcoBoost will highlight the model’s elevated performance and handling. A Street Drive will highlight Ford’s innovative park assist technologies, and hybrid fans will have an opportunity to put the Fusion Hybrid through its paces.

As an added bonus, the 2015 EcoBoost tour also includes a “ShiftPhobia” boot camp giving consumers a hands-on clinic on the basics of driving a manual – complete with on-course driving instruction from a professional driver.

By combining advanced engine technologies such as turbocharging, direct injection and variable valve timing, Ford EcoBoost engines can help customers conserve fuel without sacrificing power. In North America, EcoBoost sales make Ford the leader in turbocharged direct-injected gasoline engines in high-volume passenger vehicles such as Fusion, F-150, Edge and Escape. For 2015, 100 percent of Ford’s U.S. light-duty vehicle lineup is available with an EcoBoost engine.

2015 EcoBoost Challenge events will take place on Saturdays in March, April, May and June in the 17 cities listed below. Each venue will feature four closed-course setups, plus the street-based park assist route, including an ST Reaction Time Challenge layout, a dedicated Mustang EcoBoost course, “ShiftPhobia” manual transmission driving instruction, and an EcoBoost Challenge Drive allowing participants to drive Ford products against the competition.

All-New 2015 Ford F-150 Debuts with Snow Plow Prep Option

DEARBORN, Mich., Feb. 19, 2015 – Ford Motor Company and Petty’s Garage are teaming up to build a new 627-horsepower* Mustang GT – a limited-edition fastback inspired by the popular Petty’s Garage Mustang GT on display at last year’s SEMA show in Las Vegas.

“We received a tremendous amount of positive feedback about our Petty’s Garage Mustang GT displayed at the SEMA show,” said Jeff Whaley, Petty’s Garage COO. “With so much interest, we began to explore the possibility of building a limited run of the Petty’s Garage Mustang GT.”
Two versions of the Petty’s Garage Mustang GT will be built this year; the Stage 1 version will be limited to 100 units, while the even more exclusive Stage 2 version will total 43 units.

Stage 1 Petty’s Garage Mustang GT will feature a host of custom modifications – both visual tweaks and under the hood. A Petty’s Garage fascia at the front imparts a unique look, while a reworked rear fascia features a center-exit exhaust and prominently showcased race-inspired spoiler. Inside, custom embroidered head restraints, floor mats and Richard Petty’s own signature on the dashboard set this Mustang GT apart from the rest.

A Ford Racing/Roush supercharger, cold air intake, custom engine calibration and MagnaFlow exhaust system are fitted to Mustang GT’s 5.0-liter engine, boosting output to 627 horsepower. Power is delivered to the road by custom 20-inch Petty’s Garage HRE FlowForm wheels shod with Continental tires.

Stage 1 Mustang GT can be ordered in any color, with all unique bodywork painted to match in-house at Petty’s Garage.

Along with the features found on the Stage 1 car, the Stage 2 version includes a Petty’s Garage Wilwood big brake upgrade and a complete Petty’s Garage custom two-tone paint job. Stage 2 Mustang GT will ride on Petty’s Garage HRE three-piece forged-aluminum wheels.

Of the 43 Petty’s Garage Stage 2 Mustang GTs planned, only 42 remain, as rock ’n’ roll legend Brian Johnson has an order in for the first car. “This Mustang has just taken my breath away,” said Johnson, lead singer for AC/DC. “It really is one of the best cars I’ve ever driven. I didn’t have an American car, but I do now!”

Paint fit for ‘The King’

The Petty’s Garage Stage 2 Mustang GT’s custom two-tone paint job is identical to the 2014 SEMA show car. Using crushed-and-tumbled glass combined with iconic Petty Blue paint, Petty’s Garage has created a one-of-a-kind color for the lower half of the car. A custom tri-coat pearlescent blend of Ford Tuxedo Black complements Petty Blue for the upper half. “The King’s” legendary No. 43 is expertly ghosted into the paint on the fastback Mustang GT’s hood and C-pillar.

The Petty’s Garage Stage 1 car carries an MSRP of $62,210, while the Stage 2 car comes in at $92,210. Orders for this limited-edition Mustang GT can be placed at any Ford dealership on a first-come, first-served basis.

2015 Mustang Earns Highest Vehicle Safety Rating From National Highway Traffic Safety Administration

DEARBORN, Mich., Feb. 11, 2015 – The 2015 Ford Mustang received a top safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The 2015 Mustang earned a five-star Overall Vehicle Score in NHTSA’s New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) testing.

The New Car Assessment Program is the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s evaluation program for new vehicle designs established to test for performance against safety threats. Now on sale at Ford dealers, the all-new 2015 Mustang received five stars in the frontal crash test, five stars in the side crash test and five stars in the rollover crash test.

“The new Mustang was built from the ground up,” said Carl Widmann, Mustang chief engineer.  “It is more refined, more powerful and it has everything people have come to love about Mustang for the past 50 years.”

Safety, semi-autonomous and driver assist features

The 2015 Mustang has a myriad of standard safety features aimed at protecting drivers and occupants, as well as semi-autonomous and driver assist features that are new to the vehicle.
Features on the 2015 Mustang include an all-new inflatable airbag restraint design, double the number of airbags in the vehicle, a robust package of peripheral crash sensors and enhanced exterior lighting.

The 2015 Ford Mustang also offers innovative semi-autonomous technologies including Adaptive Cruise Control. Driver assist features include BLIS^® Cross-Traffic Alert and SYNC 911 Assist, which enables a mobile phone connected to SYNC to call 911 directly when needed. The system can also provide more detail about a crash to aid in the dispatch of the appropriate resources.

New Ford Police Interceptor Debuts at Chicago Auto Show, Sets Its Sights on Innovation, Continued Sales Leadership

CHICAGO, Feb. 11, 2015 – Ford will unveil the 2016 Ford Police Interceptor Utility vehicle at the Chicago Auto Show this Thursday, kicking off a new chapter for the utility that has changed the face of law enforcement.

Since its introduction in 2012, Police Interceptor Utility quickly became America’s best-selling police vehicle, helping Ford capture 55 percent of the U.S. law enforcement vehicle market.

The 2016 Ford Police Interceptor Utility was developed with input from the Ford Police Advisory Board to handle the extreme rigors of police duty. In the business of fighting crime, performance and durability are king. Ford Police Interceptor Utility is the only Pursuit Rated midsize utility vehicle; Ford’s utility and sedan versions are the only Pursuit Rated vehicles with standard all-wheel drive.

“Our Police Interceptor Utility is the best-selling police vehicle in America because we have a unique relationship with our customers,” said Jonathan Honeycutt, Ford North American marketing manager for Police Vehicles. “By listening to the Ford Police Advisory Board, we have engineered a vehicle that officers love.”

Customer-driven innovation

To create the most innovative law enforcement vehicles, Ford listened to the experts.

The Police Advisory Board was created by Ford to refine and develop future products that meet the needs of law enforcement agencies. The board, created in 2000, consists of a rotating panel of 25 experts from the law enforcement community. The group has supplied Ford with customer feedback and served as a pilot group for products, programs and services.

The 2016 Ford Police Interceptor Utility features a new front and rear design, new headlamps, a new instrument panel and an enhanced electrical system to distribute electrical loads more efficiently.
Available Surveillance Mode technology warns the driver when someone approaches the rear of the vehicle. Upon detection, the driver’s window automatically raises and all doors lock. Ford is the first manufacturer to bring this innovative feature to market.

As a direct response to customer feedback, Ford added a liftgate release switch, accessible to occupants in the front. It allows the rear liftgate mechanism to remain unlocked for 45 seconds before timing out, permitting officers to access the cargo area.

A rear camera with washer is standard for the 2016 model with a 4-inch screen in the center stack. As an option, the view from the camera can be seen in the rearview mirror.

Ford Police Interceptor Utility comes standard with a 3.7-liter V6 producing 304 horsepower and 279 lb.-ft. of torque, while an available 3.5-liter EcoBoost^® V6 makes 365 horsepower and 350 lb.-ft. of torque, allowing agencies to select the engine that best meets their patrol requirements. Police Interceptor Utility’s standard all-wheel drive is designed to deliver low-speed traction and high-speed handling and stability.

“From the heavy-duty suspension and powertrain offerings, to the unique steering and transmission calibrations, Ford Police Interceptor Utility is built to provide any law enforcement agency a vehicle ready to meet extremely demanding needs,” said Arie Groeneveld, chief engineer for the new Police Interceptor Utility.

Both engines have been calibrated to meet extreme test requirements defined by the Michigan State Police and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Tests include aggressive driving on road courses and racetracks, braking and acceleration, top speed and city pursuit testing.

In both Police Interceptor models, the standard six-speed transmission features a unique Pursuit Mode specifically programmed for law enforcement use. The transmission automatically switches from normal, fuel-saving operation to Pursuit Mode when it detects aggressive driving situations, based on brake line pressure, deceleration and lateral acceleration rates.

Once in Pursuit Mode, the upshift and downshift performance of the transmission is optimized for aggressive driving, returning to fuel-save mode when it senses the aggressive driving is complete. The software is tuned to perform a reverse J-turn, which is when a reversing vehicle is spun 180 degrees and continues, face forward, without changing direction of travel.

In addition to unique cooling systems designed for extreme use, Police Interceptor also features custom-developed brakes designed to withstand excessive use. The 18-inch steel wheels have high venting characteristics to help cool the brakes.

The vehicle has been designed to stand up to the demands of police work, with heavy-duty powertrain mounts, reinforced subframe mounts and unique hubs and bearings. Larger-diameter springs are used in the suspension. The upgrades help ensure every Police Interceptor model can handle the extreme rigors of law enforcement work. Even the tires are specifically designed to meet durability and pursuit standards, with some departments logging as many as 50,000 miles per year.

The unibody structure of Police Interceptor Utility features boron steel in the A-pillar and a hydroformed, high-strength steel tube that runs the width of the vehicle to improve structural rigidity. Interior and exterior dimensions remain the same for the 2016 model.

Designed in Dearborn, built in Chicago

Police Interceptor Utility and Police Interceptor Sedan are sold in more than 80 markets around the world, but built in the heartland of America, at Ford’s Chicago Assembly Plant. Once initial work is completed at Chicago Assembly Plant, the vehicles are transported less than a mile away to Troy Design and Manufacturing to be upfitted with law enforcement equipment.

A wholly owned subsidiary of Ford, Troy Design and Manufacturing operates out of a 54,000-square-foot facility, where approximately 200 workers bring Police Interceptor vehicles to life. Law enforcement agencies can select from 125 packages, which include a variety of lighting options, wraps and styles. Last year, an estimated 269,000 police-duty accessories were installed on 36,000 vehicles before shipping to police departments across the globe.

One of the most important and recognizable features of Police Interceptor are the lights. The 2016 Police Interceptor Utility allows agencies to choose from up to 25 different patterns. The lights are now better integrated into the new front and rear fascia, allowing for a more seamless design and a stealthier look for patrol duty.

In a nod to police vehicle nostalgia, Ford added a blinking white function called “wig-wag” to the incandescent high-beam light bulbs.

Other key technologies available on Ford Police Interceptor Utility:

• Ballistic shields built to Level III specifications determined by the National Institute of Justice Standard, factory-installed in the driver and passenger doors for additional protection against gunfire
  
• SYNC^®, a hands-free information technology so officers can operate various communication and audio equipment by voice control
  
• Available Blind Spot Information System (BLIS^®), which uses two radar sensors located in the rear quarter panels to detect vehicles in the surrounding lanes. If a vehicle enters the driver’s blind spot zones, the system alerts the driver with a warning light in the sideview mirror
  
• Available cross-traffic alert, which uses existing BLIS radar modules to sense oncoming traffic when slowly backing out of a parking spot. The system functions only while the vehicle is in reverse and warns when cross traffic appears within three car-widths
  
• Available Reverse Sensing System, which emits an audible tone to alert the driver to certain objects up to 6 feet behind the vehicle
