Born in Louisville, Kentucky, Michigan State University graduate Barbara Whalen was academically trained as an interior decorator. She quickly found frustration in clientele with bad taste and lots of money, or those kindred spirits with great taste but inadequate financial resources. Her father, a Ford executive, suggested she apply to become an automotive interior designer. She landed the job, found she loved it, and has spent the last 22 years raising the bar on automotive interior design, color and materials.
